al gore and the media

A friend sent this recent story in Vanity Fair about the media's treatment of Al Gore -- that would be the pre-Inconvenient Truth, pre-Academy Award, and certainly pre-Nobel Gore, but including post-presidential winner Gore. It's extremely depressing to read, but I urge you to do so. In retrospect -- and why not at the time? -- it's just outrageous to consider the ad hominum and often erroneus attacks reporters published and editors allowed against Gore, in opinion pieces and "straight" reporting alike. Will it happen again with the current crop of Democratic candidates? NPR reported today that voters are leaning toward Democrats by 13 percent but that there's only a 3 percent gap between Hilary Clinton and Giuliani........

The media can often be disgraceful when it wants to pull someone apart. Those of us who know to be skeptical can ask ourselves why they have chosen to do so and learn a lot more than what they are telling us. If all goes well the Democrats will be back and we will be able to breath a little easier.

I'm sure you are aware of the energy bill waiting to be passed by Congress. I'm working with a coalition to ensure that the bill is passed with the 35 mpg standard set by the Senate and the 15% renewable energy set by Congress. If you have the time, please sign the petition at www.energybill2007.org. It's a great, and needed cause as you well know!
