that carbon-neutral hummer

Ok, Jill (see comment) -- that could be true! Of course there are biofuels & biofuels, but that's another subject!

I have just been doing some research on "carbon offsets" (I'll post the story soon) and was already thinking if I'd heard the phrase "carbon neutral" one more time I'd scream, and then seeing it on a Hummer was too much. Why didn't the guy just say this car runs on biofuels?

The hummer is still wasteful. Unless our motto is "Doing Less with More" as a nation, the hummers are just not needed in most situations. Even if the driver is using biodiesel made from corn oil left over at his neighborhood restaurants (which is how my town's biodiesel cooperative works), the low gas mileage of his vehicle is a) not necessary, and b) lowering the number of people that could use his source of biodiesel.

At this stage in our history, we humans can ill afford to waste things, especially acres of land for corn cultivations for inefficient cars.

Referring to your next post, it's not just a matter of local communities making a difference, but even local individuals making a difference. Go ahead, turn off that light. In a very literal sense, it makes a difference. CO2 is cumulative.

BTW, I just finished reading most of your blog, and I love it. I actually bought the Psychology today magazine for the meditation article, and didn't realize it was you. I came hear via the Momma Zen blog. Cheers,

Chris
